A new exhibition will be launched on streets throughout the city in June of 2022

MILWAUKEE (March 17, 2022) – Nelson Schmidt Inc. has been selected after a competitive review by the non-profit organization Sculpture Milwaukee as marketing agency of record. The agency will help develop the globally recognized arts organization’s marketing and communications plans and initiatives. Sculpture Milwaukee’s mission is to transform downtown Milwaukee’s cultural landscape annually with a curated outdoor exhibition featuring internationally celebrated artists and sculpture.

Since 2017, Sculpture Milwaukee has produced outdoor exhibitions, bringing publicly accessible contemporary sculpture to downtown Milwaukee. The exhibitions changed annually until 2020 when the pandemic forced the organization to rethink its strategy. Exhibitions now overlap in 16-month spans and are guest curated by established artist-curators. The 2021-22 exhibition was the first under this new model. Entitled “there is this We” the exhibition was guest curated jointly by artist-curators Theaster Gates and Michelle Grabner. Nelson Schmidt will support organizational brand awareness efforts as Sculpture Milwaukee introduces its newest exhibition to the community this summer. The 2022-23 exhibition, “Nature Doesn’t Know About Us” guest curated by Ugo Rondinone opens in June.

As the agency of record, Nelson Schmidt will be working closely with the organization to immediately develop a comprehensive marketing plan to promote Sculpture Milwaukee as a rewarding, cultural destination that is accessible to all who visit the city. The agency will then focus on all marketing tactics from the plan which will include public relations and social media, print and digital advertising, event collateral and signage.

“We are always looking for inspired ways to work with others in our Wisconsin creative community and contribute to the fabric, that is, the local arts. There is no better partner to accomplish that with than Sculpture Milwaukee,” said Rachel Bertsch, Creative Director for Nelson Schmidt. “The opportunity to work with such a crucial globally-recognized arts organization is exciting.”

“Our partnership with Nelson Schmidt offers us an opportunity to take another step forward in our evolution as an organization,” said Brian Schupper, Executive Director of Sculpture Milwaukee. “We are excited to bring Nelson Schmidt in as marketing and communications experts to help promote these important artworks and broaden the cultural assets of our community.”
